What it does
- Two OLED HDR panels at 2000 x 2040 per eye, 90/120Hz, approx. 110deg field of view
- four inward eye-tracking cameras plus four outward tracking cameras for inside-out tracking
- tethered to a PS5 over one USB-C cable - no standalone mode and no Wi-Fi radio, so nothing about the headset depends on vendor cloud services
- Sense controllers add haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and finger-touch recognition, and the official charging station was still buyable at $49.99 in September 2026
- MSRP was cut permanently to $399.99 in March 2025 from the $549.99 launch price, and it sold at $299 during the May-June 2026 Days of Play sale
- PlayStation Direct (US) listed the headset as 'Currently Unavailable' from 2026-09-18 and it had disappeared from the accessories section by early October 2026
- 43 US VR/XR patents were recorded as assigned from Sony to Meta between June and September 2026 (first reported by ZDNet Korea on 2026-10-05, part of a 419-patent worldwide deal)
- Sony has announced no end of production, no end of sale and no end-of-support date, and the PlayStation Store VR2 section still lists games with new VR2 releases continuing
- Sony's own published PSVR2 exclusive Firewall Ultra was removed from sale on 2026-03-17 and its online features terminated on 2026-09-17, making that title unplayable
- a physical-disc PSVR2 release can still be played, but the practical failure mode is content and first-party support withdrawal, not a dead server
